Homemade Patty Melt Sandwiches

Serves 4 |
The perfect amount of cheesy, beefy goodness.
Ingredients:
10 slices sourdough bread
2 lb ground beef
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon pepper
3 tablespoons whole milk
1 teaspoon onion powder
4 tablespoons butter
2 onions, halved and sliced
8 slices Swiss cheese
Directions:
- Tear two slices of bread into small pieces. Place bread pieces in a mixing bowl. Add ground beef, 1 teaspoon salt, pepper, whole milk and onion powder. Mix together and form into 4 patties.
- Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a large skillet on medium-high heat. Place patties in the hot skillet and cook for about 5 minutes, until one side is browned. Transfer patties to a plate.
- Place onions in the skillet, season with remaining salt. Cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring and flipping until golden brown.
- Reduce the heat to medium. Place patties browned side up on top of the onions. Cook for about 5 minutes.
- Melt 1 tablespoon butter in a second skillet over medium heat.
- Place a slice of cheese on top of each slice of bread. Transfer onions and patties to 4 slices of bread with cheese. Top each patty with the remaining bread and cheese slices. Place sandwiches in the skillet and cook for about 4 minutes, until golden brown. While sandwiches are cooking, spread a small amount of remaining butter over each sandwich and flip. Cook for about 4 minutes, until golden brown.
